The results of the highly anticipated school president election were finalized on Tuesday, May 23rd. The election chose the new presidents and vice presidents who will be the future leaders of the school. After many students voted on google forms for who they wanted to lead their class, the winners are here! These new leaders will hopefully lead our students and school to a great and exceptional future. The Sophomore class president for the next school year will be Noah Furlow. Alongside Noah Furlow will be his look-alike twin brother, Jack Furlow. These two brothers will be leading their class for the Sophomore year. For the future Junior class, the president will be elected for his third time in a row is Corey Medina! He has proven himself as a great leader and will continue to be one for the next school year. He is a good-looking, kind young man and will prove to be a role model for the next Junior year. His partner will be Darius Williams who is new to the role. Lastly, for the Senior class, the president elected will be Blake Andrews. The person that will be helping Blake Andrews will be Caleb Haskill. Fellow senior Hayden Welch thinks these two people are the coolest of all the seniors. These two people will be great examples and leaders for their Senior class. Well done to all the candidates!

By Jake Swan and Hayden Welch As the school year comes to an end students look forward to the freedom of summer. That feeling of hope and want of warm days and no homework has sent all students into a relaxation mode. With carelessness hitting students, they have to stay strong for upcoming finals week. Finals week has many students feeling many different ways. Some feel stressed, some feel angry, but no matter how people feel that will not change teachers' minds on assigning finals. Here are some statements on how people are feeling. Student Interviews: Cruz Ortiz: “I feel slightly worried, but I also feel prepared. I am prepared to push forward and complete freshman year so I can proceed on to summer.” Alexia Padilla: “I feel good, but at the same time, stressed because some teachers are still teaching new lessons right before study guide week.” Manuel Villa: “I’m chillin, I’m not really worried.” Many different students had different opinions but almost all of their statements were very negative. This week brings burdens on students to finish the year off strong. Teachers help them as much as they can with study guides, office hours, and study sessions but is it enough? This short limited time causes panic and pressure on students to pass these final classes and get good grades. Overall, students have one thing in the way of their summer vacation, their final exams. The authors of this article feel that as final exams approach students begin to stress and overwork. It is a time of studying and working to try and get the best grade possible. As students work overtime on homework and studying, teachers print out tests. The clock is ticking down until the end of school but make sure to give it all you got. Your “Finals” will be the FINAL thing you do before summer vacation.
By Diego Campbell & Kyle Shisbey We are almost there. Mary’s been Crowned, the AP exams have ended, and the finals are fast approaching. High school is almost over. But striping away all the studying and final projecting leaves us with a solemn fact: the Seniors are almost gone. No matter the grade you are in or the classes you have, everyone’s lives have ultimately been touched by a Senior in some way. The class of 2023 has been an active, energetic, and a fun part of our community, and it is safe to say tears will be shed as we see them go. While we still had them on the line, let’s see what some of the seniors have to say before they take off one last time. Alexander Cobbs: What is your favorite memory related to school? My favorite memory related to school was when I dressed up as Michael Jackson at homecoming my junior year and danced for everybody. If you could have changed one thing about your high school career, what would it be? I would change my sophomore year because it was the worst. What’s the first thing you will miss about high school? I’ll definitely miss my friends, and teachers who have helped me along the way. Where will you go now? I will be playing football at San Jose State University and majoring in Radio and Television. What advice would you give a freshman coming into high school? My advice is to be yourself. Make what you like to do cool. Have fun in high school because it's your last chance to just be a kid. Jack Moncure: What is your favorite memory related to school? I have so many little memories of messing around and having fun it's hard to pick one. But I know I will always be able to look back on the shenanigans and laugh. If you could have changed one thing about your high school career, what would it be? I probably would be more involved, just put more effort into being social outside of school. Also I would definitely take AP classes. What’s the first thing you will miss about high school? I will miss seeing my friends every day, getting to mess around with them and goof off. Where will you go now? In the fall I am going to UC Merced for mechanical engineering. What advice would you give a freshman coming into high school? Be your own person, it's great to be funny and be a class clown but you're not defined by what others think of you. Always remember no one cares, you don't need to impress them by being the loudest or funniest, just be you. Find a group of friends that like you for who you are and stick with them. Some of these people will be connections for life. Miles Guiditta: What is your favorite memory related to school? I’ve done a lot of things; so, it’s hard to choose one I’m particular about. One of my favorite moments was when we made the Haunted House for theater If you could have changed one thing about your high school career, what would it be? My class was the class that went through COVID first. We were freshmen, and then come March everything got shut down. Having that year and a half in lockdown at the beginning of our experience definitely would have been something I’d go back and change. In some ways it was beneficial, but it harmed us a lot more. What’s the first thing you will miss about high school? I really like the structure; I like knowing “hey, I get here at 8:00, I have one class for 80 minutes, break, another class, another class, lunch, another class, and then it’s over.” There’s something just really nice about our block schedule, knowing “it’s 11:09, I should be going to my next class.” It’s the routine of the thing. Where will you go now? I’m going to Cal State Fullerton. I’m majoring in English; the intention is to get a four year degree, a bachelor’s, spend two more years on a master’s degree, and then a teaching credential. If I have the time, I will dual-major in theater. What advice would you give a freshman coming into high school? Get involved. Go to sports games, even if you are not a fan of the sport. Join clubs. Join activities. Make the most of the time you have. Otherwise, it will fly by. Cierra Anguiano:
What is your favorite memory related to school? One of my favorite memories has to come from freshman year. It was the second field trip we had with Mr. Aaron Mascaro, our religion teacher, and we went to Homeboy Industries. It was the first time I really felt part of a class. I really connected with my class, and we had a great time together before we separated because of COVID. If you could have changed one thing about your high school career, what would it be? I would say, I’d give myself the chance to run a full season of track. I was never able to because of the pandemic and a series of bad breaks. It’d be really nice to have a full season of track so I could run with my friends. What’s the first thing you will miss about high school? For me, I think it’s the environment, and the fact that it’s a small campus. I’ll miss the comfortability of being in a space where I know where everything is and know a lot of the people. Where will you go now? I am planning on attending UCLA in the fall with my twin sister. I’m going to major in political science as well as minor in English. What advice would you give a freshman coming into high school? Don’t put any limits on yourself; don’t believe you can’t achieve something. We all have a chance to succeed; it’s all about the effort you put in. Don’t wait for good things to come; go for them yourself. As you may already know, graduation is on Saturday, June 3rd. This will be the last day for all Seniors. This will be the end. The class of 2023 may have been a smaller class, but it has the most spirit. As Seniors, they are the leaders, role models and most importantly, the wisest on campus. Senior year may have been a long 10 months, but in our hearts, it flew by way too quick. By James Swanner On May 4, 2023, Mrs. Boaz led an army of students to war. The reason is because it was on the fourth, and Star War fans celebrate that specific day. At the Saint Anthony High School, Star Wars music was playing, and different kinds of snacks and treats were being sold. After hearing the Star War music from the speakers, some students got excited and began to play with the lightsabers. This enticed Mrs. Boaz to stop selling the snacks and start a little fun of her own. The students followed Mrs. Boaz and fought against other students. The students fought each other with lightsabers, play-fighting with their friends and teachers. There were a variety of students there dueling, including Junior Hayden Welch, Sophomores Matthew Forsting and Dylan Durward, as well as the famous Freshman Vincent Diaz. Beside the place where the students fought, there was a little store selling treats like cupcakes, fudge, etc. which was run by Mrs. Boaz before she decided to have a lightsaber battle. After she finished fighting with her lightsaber like Anakin Skywalker, she went back and continued to run the bake sale which raised money for the ASPCA.
By: Kyle Shisbey What is Lent? For those who don’t know, Lent is the solemn religious time in the Christian liturgical year focusing on the 40 days Jesus Christ spent fasting in the desert and enduring temptation by Satan. Lent is a time we set aside each year to remember the love of God that is poured out through Jesus Christ on the cross at his death. The defeat of death, sin and Satan in Christ's death and resurrection brings a chance for Eternal Life to humanity. During Lent, believers are challenged to make a Lenten promise. This is personal for them and is to benefit themselves during and after Lent. Customarily, people choose to give up temptations of goods or belongings, and others choose to focus on a true inner conversion of heart as they seek to follow Christ's will more faithfully. Lent is a 40 day season of prayer, fasting, and almsgiving that begins on Ash Wednesday and ends at sundown on Holy Thursday. This is a period of preparation to celebrate the Lord's Resurrection at Easter. This starts a time when we are called to practice self-discipline and fast in other ways throughout the season. One religious way is that we must abstain from meat on Fridays. Another example is through praying. The majority of people are almost always caught up in their busy lives, so they tend to forget about taking time out of their day to pray. This is something very easy, yet put aside; so, during Lent, we are called to pray more. Finally, the example of almsgiving asks us to share God's gifts, not only through the distribution of money, but through the sharing of our time and talents. Giving alms can be as easy as giving material goods and as to being there for others or helping them out when they need it.
Spending time during Lent praying, fasting and giving can make Jesus’ sacrifice on Good Friday and His resurrection on Easter even more meaningful. |
