Having experienced both an indoor and outdoor school Mass this year, I am trying to find out if students like the church or courtyard more, because some students do not want to keep switching between the church and the courtyard. I need to know which one students like more, so we can have one official location to hold the schoolwide Mass. When surveyed, most students indicated that they prefer the school Mass to be held in the church rather than in the courtyard. The reason that those students like the church more is because the setting protects them from outdoor annoyances more than the courtyard does. Another reason why students prefer the church is because they feel like God is with them in the church. Lastly, they like the church better because they can peacefully fall asleep in the church. “Mass in the church because there’s shade so no sun in your face.”-Audrey Mantong, Sophomore. “...It means less bugs” -Aaron Maningo, Sophomore. “Church, everyone is in the shade and there are no bugs. Heat is psychological- just don’t let it get to you” -Olivia Álvarez, Junior. “I’m going to say the church, because of the shade and it’s cooler." -Marc Arias, Sophomore “I would say inside, because the church is so beautiful and that I really feel the presence of God.” -Anonymous. “Church, so I can take naps." -Dylan Rosenthal, Freshman Other students say they like the courtyard better. The students that prefer the courtyard say that the church gets too hot. The students also say that they like how the courtyard has the shade sails protecting them from the sun. “Courtyard because the church has no AC.” -Olivia Medina, Senior. “Church outside is nice because it's under the shades.”-Annika Ramirez, Senior. The remaining students say that they are neutral. The students that are unbiased do not care whether it is in the church or in the courtyard. The neutral students say that their preference depends on the day and the weather. “It depends on the day…I would hate if it’s hot and we are inside. But I also hate if it’s hot and I’m outside. It honestly depends on the weather.” -Brianna Montaño, Sophomore Honestly, I personally would like it if the school Mass was held at the church. My reason for this is because I pay better attention to the priest. I also like the church more because it is indoors. Finally, I like the church more because the temperature is more regulated. Most of the students that attend Saint Anthony favor the church over the courtyard. Maybe from now on school Mass could be held in the church.

There was a discussion at a lunch table this week about the taste of M&Ms. One student said different colors of M&Ms taste different. Others at the table disagreed and said they all taste the same. What do you think? By Tyler Cazares The Powder Puff Game hosted at Clark field was an exciting event for all grade levels. There were many nail biting moments between the Classes of ‘24 and ‘23, and even a surprise appearance from Haylee Welch (Junior Hayden Welch in disguise) who took the field. The Powder Puff Game was a flag football game between juniors and seniors girls that took place right after the Freshman/Senior Picnic. The teams coached by boys from the football team. Mr. Cordero was the referee. Another important part of the Powder Puff Game was cheerleading. Normally in a football game, girls are the ones cheering the boys on, but, in this case, the boys were the cheerleaders. The boys jumped right into it with lifts and chants, painted themselves in blue and pink colors, and had lots of school spirit. Although the girls on the junior and senior teams were not as competitive as the boys on the football team, they both put up good fights... and good entertainment. With juniors wearing blue colors and seniors wearing pink colors, the two grade levels faced off in the outfield of the Clark baseball field and put on a show.
The final score between the teams was 14-7 with the seniors ending the game with a win, while the juniors left the field with a loss. By Tyler Cazares Coming into the new school year is usually either really tough on the students or really exciting. For most students, school provides lots of stress and pressure to stay on track. leading to a negative experience about learning, teachers, and school in general. Yet many students still enjoy the return after summer vacation. Most of the reasons students would be excited about going back to school revolve around whether or not the y have a lot of friends. Students with many friends could look past all the negative parts of school just so they could spend time with their friends and that could create a positive experience about learning. The results are different with all students, but coming into a new school year is generally a good thing. It leaves room for more opportunities and a brand new chance to work even harder than the previous year. Freshman and transfer students especially have a hard time going into a new school year. For new students, it’s natural for it to be a bit difficult in the beginning because they usually have to make new friends and get used to new classes. Returning students should welcome these new students into their school with open arms, to help them feel more comfortable. New teachers can also be nerve racking for all students, even returning students. Having a new teacher that doesn’t know you and whom you don’t know is a difficult experience sometimes. They don’t know if you're a good student or a difficult one; so, they would treat you as if expecting for the worse, at least that’s what I have heard from most students. A new school year also means there are a brand new opportunities for sports players to shine in their athletic department. With many seasons starting and school games beginning, this is a fun way to support your school's athletics whether it’s a home or away game. Going to school games is a must for all high schoolers and it’s a good opportunity to make new friends and just have fun. One team to look forward to is our e-Sports team. e-Sports includes a variety of games such as Rocket League, League of Legends, Valorant, Smite, Madden, Fortnite, Mario Kart, Overwatch 2, Splatoon 3, Super Smash Bros: Ultimate, Hearthstone, and Halo Infinite. All of which are available and open for students to join. Although a new year could be stressful, most students have a positive experience in spite of their past beliefs. From summer to school is a hard transfer to make, but once you get used to it, it gets easier and even fun at the same time.
By: Jayden Walker Seniors are officially done with school. But before they leave, I asked four-year seniors how the Saint experience was. “My experience at SA has opened my eyes to so many new opportunities,” said Angelina Garcia. “Within each, I have gotten to meet a variety of people and make an abundance of memories. I discovered what I enjoy doing while learning the true responsibilities of growing up. To those still at SA this is my advice: Try new things! You’ll never know what you really love if you stick to only one branch!” “I had a great experience at St. Anthony," said Alexis Garibay. "I hung out with my friends a lot and there have been many classes that were made enjoyable by the teachers. The SA environment was very welcoming and friendly as everyone is open and the staff are really kind and helping.” His advice to the underclassmen is, “In everything you do, put a 100% effort into it as you will regret not trying later in the future.” “My Saint experience was an amazing four years and I would not change a thing about going here,” said Tyler Whittenbury. “This school was the best choice I’ve ever made. The students were nice, the teachers were nice and understanding, and the activities are worth the fun, especially the senior-freshman picnic, the senior retreat, Disneyland grad night, and a lot of fun rallies at the gym with really cool themes. If I was to give any incoming freshman advice I would say never regret your choices. I had a fun time in high school and enjoy making new friends and making sure you have a cool hangout like we did.” “I had an amazing Saint experience my entire four years,” said Sebastian Menjivar. “I wouldn’t change a thing from my four years at SA and I’m definitely going to miss everything about high school. My advice for incoming freshmen is to make as many friends as you can.” As for me, I had an awesome four years here. It was great making new friends throughout all four years. It’s helped me develop more as a person. For my advice, try to live in the present. From incoming freshmen to upcoming seniors, just live in today because nothing is truly guaranteed tomorrow.
