By John Arnold The 2023 Grammy Awards took place on Sunday, February 5th in Los Angeles. The ceremony was hosted at Crypto.com Arena by comedian and producer Trevor Noah for the third straight year. Artists such as Harry Styles, Bad Bunny, Stevie Wonder, Quavo from the Hip-Hop group Migos and Glorilla all performed during the show. Of everyone in attendance, Beyoncé had the most nominations this year with nine. Kendrick Lamar was esteemed with eight nominations while both Adele and Brandy Carlile had seven. Many other popular artists including Harry Styles, DJ Khaled, Mary J. Blige and Randy Merril all had six nominations. Rapper and producer Jay-Z got five nominations which tied his wife, none other than Beyoncé, for the most Grammy nominations of all time, as the two now have 88 nominations each. Beyoncé was one of the biggest highlights from the ceremony, as she was awarded with four trophies, the highest amount won at the ceremony. Beyoncé was awarded for Best Dance/Electronic Recording, Best Traditional R&B Performance, Best R&B Song and Best Dance/Electronic Music Album. With the acquisition of these four trophies, Beyoncé now stands as the most awarded artist in Grammy history as a 32-time winner. However, her overall accomplishment in the ceremony did not include any awards in the four main categories Another big highlight of the ceremony was Maverick City Music who found just as much success as Beyoncé by also winning four awards. The Christian music group’s “Breathe” won Best Contemporary Christian Music Album and their album “Kingdom Book One (Deluxe)” won Best Gospel Album. Best Contemporary Christian Music Performance/Song was awarded to their performance “Fear is Not my Future”. Their final trophy was Best Gospel Performance/Song which was won by their song “Kingdom”. As for the four biggest awards, “Just Like That” by Bonnie Raitt won Song of the Year. Record of the Year was given to “About Damn Time” by Lizzo, and Album of the Year was given to Harry Styles’s “Harry’s House.” The final award of Best New Artist was given to Samara Joy whose fame skyrocketed after releasing her first album in 2021. Some of the other awards were won by Adelle (Best Pop Solo Performance), Kendrick Lamar (Best Rap Album), Bad Bunny (Best Músico Urbana Album), Willie Nelson (Best Country Album) and Taylor Swift (Best Music Video).
