By Victoria Valenzuela Fans young and old were shocked when the band, “Metallica”, announced they would be going on tour and dropping a new album “72 Seasons” April 14, 2023. After almost 42 years of music, everyone was caught off guard when they checked Instagram Monday morning. The album will consist of 12 tracks with the music video for their single, “Lux Æterna,” that came out November 28th. James Heitfield, the lead guitarist, left a statement about the album after being asked the question, “Is there a special meaning to the title?”. “The first 18 years of our lives that form our true or false selves. The concept that we were told ‘who we are’ by our parents. A possible pigeonholing around what kind of personality we are. I think the most interesting part of this is the continued study of those core beliefs and how it affects our perception of the world today. Much of our adult experience is reenactment or reaction to these childhood experiences. Prisoners of childhood or breaking free of those bondages we carry.” After hearing this, many fans were even more excited to hear the album especially with the deep complexity and explanation.
These are the names of the songs on the album: "72 Seasons," "Shadows Follow," "Screaming Suicide," "Sleepwalk My Life Away," "You Must Burn!," "Lux Æterna," "Crown of Barbed Wire," "Chasing Light," "If Darkness Had a Son," "Too Far Gone?," "Room of Mirrors," and "Inamorata." Not much information has gone out about the tour yet; however, they did announce it is called M72. There will be forty-six unique shows in 22 cities around the world, and presale started Wednesday, November 30, 2022. Whether you're older and reminiscing on the memories you have with Metallica's music, or you're younger and want to start, this is the perfect opportunity to listen to the Metallica we all know and love.
