By Victoria Valenzuela Fans were shocked when singer-songwriter and artist of the decade, Taylor Swift announced during her Video Music Awards award speech that she is going to release her 10th studio album, Midnights, October 21, 2022. Not only was this a huge night because of the album release, but she was also the first artist ever to win “Video of the Year” for the third time.
Swifties (the name for HUGE Taylor Swift fans) had been speculating an announcement for a while now. Swift's cryptic messages via Tik-Tok, Instagram, and Twitter, had left fans reeling and speculating on a possible new project. Her last album of new music was released in July of 2020, making Midnights her 6th album in 6 years. At the VMA Awards on October 21st, Swift made the announcement all her fans had been waiting for. “I had sort of made up my mind that, if you were going to be this generous and give us this, I thought it might be a fun moment to tell you that my brand-new album comes out October 21. And I will tell you more at midnight…” After this announcement, fans were immediately on the clock. “Taylor Swift announcing an album called Midnights and then robbing me of mine is such a Taylor Swift thing to do” said a fan. Many fans are also theorizing a homage to the past. This year marks the 13 year anniversary of Kanye West interrupting her VMA speech that created a bitter feud. This resulted in Swift disappearing on all social media for two years until 2017. Swift is notorious for her Easter eggs and puzzles; however, no one was expecting a whole new track. Taylor Swift wrote in her Instagram post, “This is a collection of music written in the middle of the night, a journey through terrors and sweet dreams.” Many are speculating that this could be her most raw-real album yet.
