By Alexander Cobbs The College Football season is coming to an end soon, and that means that it is almost time to reveal who will be the winner of the annual Heisman Trophy. This award has been around since 1935 and is won by who is said to be the best player in College football. Oftentimes it is mainly a competition between quarterbacks from different colleges rather than each and every position, but, nevertheless, it is still one of the most prized awards in football. So, the question at hand is who is going to win it this year? Let’s have a look at the standings and projections for who will win the Heisman Trophy in 2022. The first nominee is the quarterback from the Georgia Bulldogs, Stetson Bennett. This guy has been a dog all season. He finished the regular season completing 67.8% of all of his total passes thrown and having a total of 3,151 yards. He tallied up 16 touchdowns and only threw 6 interceptions. It is also important to remember that as of right now Georgia is undefeated. Bennett is expected to be no different from how he has been all season as he leads the Bulldogs into the SEC Championship Game against LSU in Atlanta next week. Last year, Bennett helped Georgia win its first national championship in a long time with the one before that being in 1980, so Stetson Bennett already has what it takes to win it all and prove that he is the greatest current player in College. The next nominee is TCU’s very own Max Duggan. Talk about a breakout season. The TCU Horned Frogs have been on a roll this year and a big part of their success was their quarterback Max Duggan. In the last game of TCU’s regular season, 377 yards were collected by the Frogs and this onslaught from the offense was led by Duggan himself as he completed 17 out of 24 passes for a total of 212 yards and 3 touchdowns. With the help of Duggan, TCU will also be entering the postseason undefeated and they will be heading to the Big 12 Championship against Kansas State. The third nominee is Ohio State's quarterback C.J. Stroud. We wish we can say the same for the passer of the Buckeyes. Unfortunately, in his last game against Michigan, Stroud and the offense struggled big time against the Wolverines. Stroud still had a solid game completing 31 of 48 passes with a total of 349 yards, and 2 touchdowns, but also two interceptions as well. The loss to Michigan may have cut deep for Stroud, as it not only meant that Stroud was winless against Michigan, but it also might have cost him the Heisman. Last but not least, the front runner for the Heisman Trophy Race is the USC Trojans quarterback Caleb Williams. Thanks to Williams, USC might have clinched themselves a spot in the playoffs. His Heisman Trophy moment came in USC’s win over Notre Dame as Williams threw for 232 yards, a touchdown, and 3 rushing touchdowns winning the game 38-27. Williams might have sealed the deal after his game against UCLA where he threw for over 500 yards. USC picking him up from the transfer portal may have been one of their smartest moves in a long time, and it is certain that Caleb will be nothing short of exceptional in the playoffs as well.
As of right now, the race to the Heisman Trophy is very interesting, but it is still anyone's game. All that can be done now is to let the rest of the season pan out.
