by: Austin CassidySt. Anthony high school was built in 1920 and ever since then kids have been happy and smiling as they walk around our small but beautiful campus. Three years ago we celebrated our 100 year anniversary for our high school. And another fun fact: the buildings for our school were built for war to be bomb proof! Cooper Paul Milovich loves St. Anthony because he gets to see Frankie Contrereas and Jaylen Butler everyday. Even though he is grounded for a month and can't do anything he still has fun at school. Cooper said, “I like to hangout with my friends and go to football games.” Kieran James Bizzaro likes to play soccer and eat cinnamon muffins. Kieran says “I like to see Frankie and go to the football games and scream.” He also has an addiction to the cinnamon rolls at the cafeteria. St Anthony is a place where students can have fun and do everything they want to do.

By Diego Campbell If you’ve ever heard of Harry Potter, read any Dr. Seuss’ book, or looked at the Senior pages of your high school yearbook, then you’ve heard of quotes that will make you laugh, cry, or explain a hard concept about the world in ten words or less. Quotes are phrases from a work, author, or statement that carry some weight in their meaning. You typically want to have a good quote ready if you have a chance to say the last word in a party, if you are stuck in a strongly worded argument, or if you have to give some secret code to get into a party to win a strongly worded argument. Since we have made it to the end of our metaphorical party (the school year), I wanted to leave off on a good note with some solid last words. After all, “the hardest goodbyes are the ones that were never said and never explained, the ones where the story wasn’t over” (Virginia Brown). So I’m going to try my best and make this whole goodbye thing a little easier for all of us with these Final Words of Wisdom. “Don’t cry because it’s over. Smile because it happened.” (Dr. Seuss). It can be a sad day when something we’ve been a part of ends, and we know there’s no going back. It can be easy to wallow in sadness because we can never relive the nostalgia. But that honestly sounds like a rotten way to live the rest of your days. Instead, Dr. Seuss says it best; smile because it happened, and because you got to enjoy it at all. “Don’t ever tell anyone anything. If you do, you start missing everybody.” (J. D. Salinger). This is a bit of a joke quote. If we don’t talk to people, we can’t form relationships with them that’ll make us miss them when we finally say goodbye. Of course, most people will go through life talking to at least one person, so it’s obvious this quote is impossible to follow to the letter. But besides the laugh, it’s also a reminder that we will have to say goodbye to everyone we meet. This quote is a double edged sword that cuts with comedy and solemnity. Goodbyes are inevitable, and we have to understand that so we can try to be ready when they come. “The two hardest things to say in life are hello for the first time and goodbye for the last.” (Moira Rogers). Every story has a beginning and an end. They can begin with a greeting and end in a parting phrase. It does not have to be the words “hello” and “goodbye”; it can be walking up and introducing yourself to your future best friends, or giving them a farewell hug as they board their plane back to their home country. The circumstances will never be the same for everyone, but they essentially boil down to hello and goodbye. It’s hard to be brave to come up and start that story; it’s almost impossible to be ready to let it end. But it’s that stuff in between, friendships, projects, highs and lows, etc, that make those hellos and goodbyes worth it. “Every beginning has an end and every ending is a new beginning.” (Santosh Kalwar). Similar to the phrase “when one door closes another door opens” this quote throws away the doors and keeps it plain and simple. Everything that starts will have an end; Science and religion both love to confirm this. But when something ends/finishes, we are left with something new. It could be the aftermath; it could be the next chapter in our lives. We have no guarantee that the next step forward will be better for us, but there’s an equal guarantee that it will be worse. The only thing we know for sure is that what happened was always going to end, and all that’s left ahead of us is new. There are many quotable phrases in the world, but I can’t keep fishing in the endless pond that is Google Images forever. I wanted to find quotes that could capture the feeling in someone’s heart in that moment when the ball drops and the part of their lives they’ve been living in is over. The basic TL;DR is that the time for farewells will always come, but it’s those goodbyes that help us realize what we’ve been through matters. I’ve been writing for The Halo for 2 years, making articles about news in the world, saints, things that I like, and the Praying Man comic series (which I finally gave a proper ending to, go check it out.) This will be my last article, so I wanted to say goodbye as best as I could. Winnie the Pooh says it best: “How lucky I am to have something that makes saying goodbye so hard.” (A. A. Milne). I say my goodbyes like I say my thank you’s. So thank you to Mr. Nelson and Mr. Spicer, who have taught the journalism class and who gave me a chance to write to my heart's content. Thank you to my fellow journalists in both years, who’ve written about stuff I never would have known about without their articles and who’ve been awesome classmates in general. Probably most important, thank you to you the readers, be you family, friends, or anyone who just so happened to click on our little school magazine for a quick read. Thank you for finding interest in our stories and for giving us the time of day.
I don’t know what’s going to happen now, but I hope you're as excited as I am to see what comes next. Signed, Diego Campbell By Alexander Cobbs Rhythm, flow, vocals, beats, and charisma. What more could I ask for? In the vast ocean of musical genres, one stands tall as the unrivaled king of rhythm, poetry, and cultural impact. That genre is 90s Hip Hop. Defined by its raw beats, intricate rhymes, and socially conscious messages, this golden era of music birthed a revolution that forever changed the landscape of the industry. From its beginnings in the streets of New York to its global dominance, 90s Hip Hop remains a timeless and unparalleled force, making it the greatest music genre of all time.
The Birth of a Cultural Phenomenon In the late 1980s and early 1990s, Hip Hop exploded onto the scene, capturing the hearts and minds of millions across the globe. Rooted in the experiences of marginalized communities, this genre provided a platform for artists to express their struggles, hopes, and dreams like never before. 90s Hip Hop wasn't just music; it was a cultural movement that gave a voice to the voiceless and shed light on social issues such as racial inequality, poverty, and police brutality. Unmatched Lyricism and Storytelling One of the defining characteristics of 90s Hip Hop was its unparalleled lyricism and storytelling. Artists like Tupac Shakur, The Notorious B.I.G., Nas, and Wu-Tang Clan crafted intricate verses that painted vivid pictures of their lives and the world around them. Their words had the power to evoke emotions, challenge societal norms, and spark meaningful conversations. Whether it was the poetic and introspective musings of Tupac or the gritty narratives of Biggie, the lyrical prowess of these artists set the standard for all future generations. Raw and Innovative Beats The beats of 90s Hip Hop were nothing short of groundbreaking. Producers like Dr. Dre, DJ Premier, RZA, and Pete Rock pushed the boundaries of sampling, creating new sonic landscapes that combined elements of funk, soul, jazz, and R&B. The result was a rich and diverse musical tapestry that captivated listeners from all walks of life. From the smooth, laid-back melodies of G-Funk to the gritty, boom-bap drums of East Coast Hip Hop, each region had its distinct sound, contributing to the genre's unparalleled depth and variety. Social and Political Impact Beyond its musical brilliance, 90s Hip Hop served as a powerful catalyst for social and political change. The lyrics acted as a call to arms, addressing systemic issues and amplifying the voices of the oppressed. Songs like Public Enemy's "Fight the Power" and N.W.A's "Straight Outta Compton" became anthems of resistance, shining a light on the injustices faced by marginalized communities. This genre gave birth to a generation of activists, using music as a tool to inspire change and bring attention to societal problems. Enduring Influence and Legacy Nearly three decades after its peak, the influence of 90s Hip Hop continues to reverberate through contemporary music and popular culture. Its impact can be felt in the work of current artists like Kendrick Lamar, J. Cole, and Drake, who pay homage to the lyrical and thematic traditions established in this era. Moreover, 90s Hip Hop has transcended generations, captivating both old and new listeners, proving its timelessness and immortality. In a world where music genres come and go, 90s Hip Hop stands tall as the greatest of them all. Its unmatched lyricism, raw beats, and profound cultural impact have solidified its place in history. This golden era of music not only birthed a genre but also gave birth to a movement that challenged social norms, sparked conversations, and united people across the globe. By Jake Swan Ahhhh, Paris. There are many toppings you can choose to put on a pizza from mushrooms, peppers, tomatoes, pepperoni… or pineapple, if you're a weirdo. With all these modern day toppings it is easy to forget where pizza started. In Italy, pizza originally only had a few ingredients, flat bread, tomato, mozzarella, and basil. This combination was called “Pizza Margherita” to honor Queen Margherita of Italy in 1886. Most common pizza toppings and their rating- Margherita pizza- Certain restaurants still serve a Margherita pizza to this day and has respectable toppings. The tomatoes add a nice, sweet flavor and the basil balances it out. It is a simple yet delicious combination of toppings. This is an 8/10 pizza. Meat lovers' pizza- Meat lovers' pizza toppings are what the name implies. It’s a normal pizza but instead of having just pepperoni it has 3 types of meat. Most commonly meat lovers' pizza will have pepperoni, sausage, and ham. Most of the time restaurants are not stingy with how much meat they put on the pizza and are not afraid to give you a heart attack. Meat lovers' pizza is one of the better pizzas. it is also filling because of how much meat is on the pizza. This is a 9/10 pizza. Pepperoni pizza- Pepperoni pizza is the standard pizza at every kid's birthday and social gatherings, and for good reason. Pepperoni pizza is simple but sustains so much flavor with little effort. The pepperonis add a salty flavor that is just the right amount. Pepperoni pizza is delectable and a staple in American cuisine. This is a 10/10 pizza. Cheese pizza- Cheese pizza is an okay pizza. Unless the cheese is a special type of cheese like real Italian mozzarella, cheese pizza is not that good. Mostly little kids eat cheese pizza because they think pepperoni is too spicy or for some other lame reason. Usually no one over the age of 8 years old chooses to eat cheese pizza. This is a 4/10 pizza. Mushroom with pepperoni and/or sausage This pizza is an alright pizza, I wouldn’t order it but if it’s at a party I would eat it. This pizza is literally pepperoni or sausage pizza with mushrooms on top. The mushrooms don’t really add that much flavor but do add texture. This is a 6/10 pizza. Jalapeño pepperoni pizza- Jalapeño and pepperoni are some of the elite toppings on pizza. Some people will say jalapeños are too spicy, to this I say grow up. The jalapeños are not too spicy and they add so much flavor to the pizza with the already flavorful pepperoni. This is a 9/10 pizza. Vegan pizza- Vegan pizza is… actually alright. Vegan pizza usually has tomato, mushrooms, onion, peppers, and black olives. It is basically an excuse for a “healthy” pizza. The vegetables have an okay flavor all together. This pizza is a good excuse for eating healthy and tastes alright. This is a 6/10 pizza Pineapple pizza- Pineapple pizza is an atrocity. Whoever thought it was a good idea to put a super sweet fruit on pizza needs help. People can argue that pineapple pizza is good and gets too much hate. it doesn’t and deserves the hate. When biting into it you get the nice flavor of pizza and then you bite into a piece of pineapple and are faced with the reality that you are eating a pizza with a literal fruit on it. This combination just should not exist as there are only a few people who actually like pineapple on their pizza. If Queen Margherita was given a pineapple pizza in Italy, she would have left royalty. 2/10 pizza, it’s only receiving this rating because it has pizza in the name. By Tyler Cazares If the zombie apocalypse broke out there would be major casualties to staff and students, but the question arises… who would be the last survivor? Our staff is very diverse but three teachers stand out when it comes to this subject. These three are Mr. Edwards, Mr. Salinas, and Mr. Nelson. One pick is right next door in Mr. Salinas’s Room. His experience in close combats such as wrestling, boxing, and stick fighting make him a formidable opponent. These factors are perfect for close combat, but that’s not very useful against zombies. Therefore, Mr. Salinas is not the top pick for the zombie apocalypse.
Another pick would be Mr. Edwards. Our favorite sports medicine teacher is useful as a medic, and he’s a very fit man. Mr. Edwards is active and loves to demonstrate his strength and knowledge of the human body. These aspects are very useful in a zombie apocalypse, but they don’t make him the top contender. The real top dog in this situation is… MR NELSON Despite Mr. Nelson’s age, his experience in the military gives him a huge upper hand against all the other teachers. He has true experience on the battlefield and is trained to handle all kinds of situations. As a retired Army Colonel, it’s assumed that he possesses at least one firearm which will also be useful for fighting off zombies. All of these factors make him the top candidate out of the faculty. By Alexander Cobbs The school environment can be stressful and overwhelming for students, with many facing academic, social, and personal pressures on a daily basis. To provide a relaxing and enjoyable environment for the students, Saint Anthony should consider playing music during lunchtime everyday. Here are some reasons why music should be an integral part of the school day Monday through Friday.
Firstly, music can have a positive impact on students' mental health. Studies have shown that music has the ability to reduce stress, anxiety, and depression in individuals. By playing music during lunchtime every day of the week, this school can create a calm and relaxing environment that can help students unwind and recharge for the remainder of the school day. Secondly, music can bring students together and foster a sense of community. When students listen to music together, they have the opportunity to bond over shared musical interests and form new connections with their peers. This can help to break down social barriers and create a more inclusive school environment. Moreover, music can also improve students' academic performance. Research has shown that listening to music can improve cognitive function, memory retention, and concentration. By playing music during lunchtime, Saint Anthony can help students to improve their focus and academic performance. Finally, music can be a form of self-expression and creativity for students. By exposing students to a diverse range of musical genres and styles, Saint Anthony High School can encourage students to explore their own musical interests and talents. This can help to foster creativity and encourage students to pursue their passions outside of the classroom. It is arguable that playing music everyday would cause problems at school lunchtime such as SA lunch supervisors being unable to control the students due the music being too loud. Music everyday would also eliminate the satisfaction of the music played on Friday as it was a sign that the students made it through another week of school. However, in this situation, the pros to playing music at lunch everyday outweigh the cons. In conclusion, playing music during lunchtime can have a range of positive effects on students' mental health, social connections, academic performance, and creativity. By incorporating music into the school day, Saint Anthony High School can create a more relaxed and enjoyable environment for students that supports their overall well-being. It is time for schools to recognize the value of music in student life and prioritize its role in the school day. By James Swanner Artificial Intelligence, or AI, has been getting increasingly advanced over the past 50 years, but there will be a point when it is too advanced. AI has done a lot of good for our society but many potentially bad things might happen in the future. One example of this is human unemployment. With robots not being humans and easily replaceable, robots can be the main workforce in the future, leaving humans unemployed. Another bad thing about robots is that they are imperfect and have many errors. They could be very dangerous when dysfunctioning, you don’t know the dangers that could happen. The last and possibly most important fact is the damage to the environment. The carbon footprint that is created because of fuel and hardware required to make good robots is horrible for the environment and our world.
AI becoming more advanced isn’t all bad, there are many good things about it. As I said before, human unemployment would happen and many people are against that but the upsides are workers who would rarely mess up and are artificially smarter than humans. Also, they could take jobs that are life-threatening for humans like being in the army. Another big help to humans would be that cyber security would be increased drastically which would help keep their money safe from hackers. Advanced AI will make it much safer for people’s belongings to be kept away from hackers and other bad people. Personally, I believe that AI being advanced is a good thing for the world and hope for it to continue advancing because that will allow new inventions and better quality items to be made for the world. By John Arnold Pineapple is among the most common fruits and loved by millions across the world. Pizza is likely on the list of the 10 greatest edible inventions of all time, as it displays a beautiful combination of meat and cheese along with a growing variety of toppings. However, as a wise man once said, “you either die a hero or live long enough to see yourself become the villain.” This statement applies to pizza, since its list of toppings grew one too many and the villainous combination of pizza and pineapples was created. To make it clear, pineapple by no means should be placed on top of a pizza. Pineapple, something renowned for its sweet and acidic flavor, disrupts the pizza as the juicy chunks of fruit do not mix well with tomatoes. They also make the crust soggy and ruin the savory delight of biting into a slice. This is not to throw shade on pineapples since they are delicious and among the better fruits in my opinion. Unfortunately, its deliciousness is simply not compatible with pizza, and pineapple should not fill a roster spot for pizza toppings.
Most know that pizza is an Italian product that dates back to the days of Napoli where it was initially a flatbread. Neapolitan pizza is unique for its required standards which include having a 35 centimeter diameter as well as crust about 1-2 centimeters tall. Pizza later made its way westward into America where it separated into two different styles. The first was from Italian immigrants who ate a variation in cities like New York. The second came when the American GIs returned from World War 2. The deep dish pie-like Chicago style pizza later developed; though, New York style is more traditional as one can grab-and-eat it on the go. Meanwhile, pineapple pizza, the outcast of pizza variations, is known by many as Hawaiian style pizza which features pineapples and ham for toppings. The style was invented in 1960 by a Canadian man from Ontario named Sam Panopoulos. Not only did Panopoulos use pineapples to create the heinous pizza variation, he even used canned pineapples over fresh ones. Using facts, there are two main ways the pineapple pizza breaks the traditional code of pizza. First, pineapple is a sweet topping, in fact the only sweet item to ever be used as a pizza topping. By necessity, pizza is a savory food and you cannot blend sweet flavors on a savory pizza and expect the flavors to mix together successfully. The second reason is that pineapple pizza flat out breaks the pizza tradition. Ponopoulos was never stopped by anyone from creating pineapple pizza because no one understood it at the time either. Pizza was not common in Ontario and as far as people were concerned pineapple was just another topping. The tradition of pizza is broken by pineapples as their flavors do not go together. Pineapples is scrumptious fruit but should not be allowed onto a pizza. By Tyler Cazares The week of spring break is one of the most exciting and eventful times of the year. Spring break is a time of vacation, partying, and relaxing for those who need a break from their work. Some fun things to do in Spring Break are travel or go to amusement parks, the beach, and parties. The activities of spring break have a wide variety from raging parties to relaxing beach trips. The activities are endless and it’s like a mini summer vacation. Amusement parks can also be fun. Places like Knotts Berry Farm, Six Flags, and Disneyland/ Disney World are very fun attractions in the USA. Lastly, traveling to other places can be fun. If there’s not a nice beach in your area, you can find one in another place. If you want to see snow and you do not have any in your area, then the same idea applies. In conclusion, Spring Break is a vastly great break that can be a moment to kick back and relax or to have fun and live life to the fullest. It’s a time looked forward to by many, and dreaded by many. Some would say it’s the most fun time of the year.
