By Jacob Swan Over the course of the 2023 National Football League (NFL) season, the NFL has experienced more injuries than usual. Along with the number of injuries, the severity of each injury has also been a huge concern. We saw many players experience injuries that were hard to look at such as those of Damar Hamilin and Tua Tagovailoa. The NFL struggled when trying to figure out what to do and made poor choices. If the NFL wants to maintain a happy and healthy environment, then they must make good decisions. Tua Tagovailoa, in his third season with the Dolphins, suffered an injury in a Monday night game against the Bills earlier in the season. He left the game with what the Dolphins described as neck and back spasms. The Dolphins were then scheduled for a thrilling Thursday night header against the Bengals in which the Dolphins trainer, against popular opinion, decided to clear Tua for the game. In this game Tagovailoa suffered another nasty hit, this one being ruled a concussion knocking him out for a couple weeks. Yet once Tagovailoa had recovered and his symptoms had gone away, the Dolphins again cleared him from concussion protocol, and, after a couple games played, he was again hit and ruled out with a concussion. With the Playoffs approaching and the Dolphins claiming the seventh seed, there were reports of Tagovailoa coming back to play, but hasn't he suffered enough? The NFL is ruining this man's life, and for what? A couple of dollars. With our lack of medical knowledge of the brain and its functions, for all we know Tua could be losing his memory or worse his mind altogether. Unlike Tagovailoa ’s injury, Bill’s safety Damar Hamilin suffered an injury recently that was one of the most severe injuries the NFL has ever seen. After tackling a Bengal’s receiver, Damar suffered blunt force trauma to his chest, and, after standing in a hurry, collapsed on the ground unconscious. He then went into cardiac arrest. He received CPR and his heart was resuscitated on the field and transported via ambulance to the University of Cincinnati Medical Center. This injury spooked the entire league. Announcers, players, coaches, and fans all united together in fear and hope for this poor player's health. While everyone was left speechless, the NFL commissioning group told the teams they had 5 minutes to warm up and then they’d have to continue to play. Players were crying in fear and sadness about what would happen to their teammate. The coaches then consulted and took their teams into the locker room before agreeing to cancel the game. It seemed as though everyone wanted to cancel the game except the actual NFL. The NFL made misinformed decisions and were insanely ignorant in their choices. Former NFL player Trey Johnson said it best “Life is bigger than football.” It seemed everyone realized that, except the NFL. With the NFL having more than 130 concussions and many other non-related head injuries that they have never seen before, they’ll have to think fast on what their precautions should be for the future. The NFL, an organization made of money, has made poor decisions again and again. They need to take leadership and prove that they can take care of their players. If they fail to do so then player safety may get worse. As stated before “Life is bigger than football!”

By Jack Moncure Overlanding is the newest craze. Surges of people are getting rigs and hitting the trail. Overlanding lets you explore new places and experiences without the discomfort of full blown camping. This outdoor activity has a massive appeal because you're able to go to previously untouchable places in comfort at a reasonable price. Although it doesn't take a lot to get into overlanding, costs can snowball quickly. If you want to explore overlanding, I'd recommend breaking it down into key components. How to get there: You need a capable vehicle. A 4wd truck or SUV is best, but a 2wd can be used. However, overlanding in a 2wd vehicle may require some driving skill and momentum. While limited, many people are getting by with cars and crossovers like Subarus and Jeep SUVs. Some modifications can help like lights, tires, suspension, and skid plates. Where to sleep: Here, you have many options, but you still have to consider where you're going to sleep once you get there. Many people fold down their seats and sleep in the car. Others use the good old fashioned ground tent. Then there are differing levels of rooftop tents (arguably the best option). What to do: When you get to your destination, you need to entertain yourself. Make sure to bring food, snacks, LOTS of water, Bluetooth speakers, chairs, and firewood. The journey is often more important than the destination, but you don’t want to spend all day wheeling and be bored once you're there. Where to go: Arguably the most important aspect is where you're gonna go! You want to look for places that are fun, with beautiful scenery and activities like hiking, mountain biking, swimming, and fishing. You have to consider the distance, the terrain difficulty, and the rules and regulations surrounding camping. My recommended places are the Sequoias, San Luis Obispo, Pismo Beach, the general central coast, and of course my all time favorite Baja, places like Coyote Cals, Molino Viejo, San Felipe, and tons more. How to get ready: Outfitting your rig is hugely important. You can spend very little or a whole lot; so, it's important to understand what you need. When you're first getting into overlanding, you should start with the basics and add things one piece at a time as in the Johnny Cash song. It's always important to remember you don't need all the fancy expensive parts, and more expensive is definitely not always better. My personal recommendation is SmittyBilt and other 4WP house brand products. These brands have been working hard to deliver the same or better quality parts to outfit your rig so you don't have to break the bank.
Overall remember to stay prepared, don't get intimidated, and just get out there! By James Swanner The location of one of the best Popeyes is 1150 W Rosecrans Ave, Gardena, CA 90247. Popeyes is a fast-food place and is considered one of the best fast-food restaurants ever. It usually serves chicken type foods like their specialty, the chicken sandwich. They also have a variety of signature sides like mashed potatoes and mac n cheese. Their pricing is not that high for fast food; their chicken foods such as, the chicken sandwich and wings, cost 7 dollars per serving, and their sides like biscuits and mac n cheese only cost 2 dollars per serving. Everything on the menu is delicious, like their chicken nuggets and mac n cheese. But my favorite is their fries. I love their fries so much since they are seasoned to perfection and there are so many fries that they alone fill me up. Dipping the fries in their sauces, like sweet n hot and honey mustard, will only make them more delicious than they already are. If you try Popeyes for the first time, I recommend their best dish, the chicken sandwich. The chicken sandwich is Popeyes's specialty, and it contains chicken breast that was marinated for 12 hours and seasoned with Cajun and Creole spices. This is put on a brioche bun with pickles and spicy mayo. Popeyes is my favorite fast-food restaurant, and if you want fast and delicious chicken, you have to visit.
By Hayden Welch Walt’s Wharf is a seafood joint located in downtown Seal Beach. It’s a great spot for all 3 meals of the day and has a menu varying in menu prices. Serving all kinds of fish from Catfish to Lobster, the restaurant caters to all customers Cuisine : The prices of meals vary from 16 dollars to 50 dollars, the price of their best meal. Walt’s Wharf specialties are the Grilled Salmon Tacos and the Louisiana Blackened Catfish, with both of these items being great and tasty for the price. Out of the Items my favorite would have to be Clam Chowder, coming in two sizes it makes a great appetizer or entree. A great meal I would recommend is either the catfish or the smoked albacore melt, both are great choices for a first-time diner. Ambience:
The vibe of the place is overall a good one. The place is always packed, but it is always spacious and never too loud. It gives you a very beachy feel, and it properly corresponds with the food being served. The restaurant gives you a beachy Orange County fish grill. By Lucas Fredette A restaurant that has yet to never disappoint me is Las Vegas’s Mastro’s. I've been to this restaurant about five times, and each was memorable. Mastro’s is an upscale steakhouse and seafood club. There are 20 locations, I have only been to one in Las Vegas.
Since Mastro’s is an upscale restaurant, they are on the more expensive side with their menu. The price for an appetizer ranges anywhere from $20 to $45. There is a selection of sushi from $22 to $36, soups range from $14 to $21. Steaks are anywhere from $53 to $70. Seafood items, which you can order on the side with any entree, are from $43 to $52. Sides are from $5 to $40. Mastro’s specials are the Japanese A5 Wagyu 8oz New York for $150, There is also a 10oz New York for $170. There Wagyu Tomahawk Chop 32oz for $195, also a 40oz for $250. A recommendation from myself would be the 8oz filet. This steak is amazing enough to enjoy every bit. Sides to order along with your entree, are steamed asparagus, white-chedder mac and cheese, and bacon wrapped steak. A desert I really recommend ordering is the warm butter cake. This cake is a warm cake with vanilla ice cream on top to make an amazing combination between warm and cold. As long as you pick something that is on the menu you have paid your money's worth. Mastro’s is a must if you enjoy steak and seafood. If you are ever in Las Vegas, I can't tell you enough to go to this restaurant. Mastro’s may be a bit pricey, but the food is worth every penny. By Jake Swan Located right in Long Beach on 6200 B Pacific Coast highway lies an amazing breakfast spot that all must go to. The Local Spot serves many happy customers from all over. Whether it is a quick meal before work, or a nice relaxing meal with your family, The Local Spot can do it all. This amazing breakfast place is open Monday through Sunday from 7am - 2pm. Just in time for Lunch! In my opinion the Local Spots service and hospitality is like no other. The workers are very friendly and look like they love what they do. Even Yelp gave them a 4.5 rating! This local Breakfast place is by far my favorite place to go to in the mornings. Along with their amazing customer service and hospitality lies an amazing kitchen whose possibilities are endless when it comes to breakfast. Some of these options include Pancakes, French Toast, Breakfast Burritos, Omelets, and so much more. Each item individually also includes many different options and varieties. For example, for different meals based around eggs (one of their specials) they have 10 different meal plans! Also, they have fun little items on the menu that sets them apart from the rest, including breakfast pancakes, vegan options, and avocado based meals. Personally, I love their fluffy pancakes along with their amazing bacon and sausage. Overall, The Local Spot offers so much and more, even along with their breakfast style restaurant, they also have burgers if you want some lunch as well. Finally, their prices are very affordable having all meals (not including drinks) under 10 dollars. Drink prices at most would be 3 dollars but only one drink is above 2 dollars. This affordable little breakfast spot holds a special place in my heart full of good meals and happy memories. If you are ever near by and looking for a spot to eat, the Local Spot is a happy, welcoming, and delicious place to stop by and have a bite.
By: Victoria Valenzuela One of my new favorite places to eat is Bored and Hungry right here in Long Beach, 2405 E 7th St, Long Beach, CA 90804, which is its only location. It was the first cryptocurrency-themed fast-food restaurant, however due to recent changes, that has stopped. It is also the first concept from Food Fighters Universe, the world's first NFT restaurant group owned by restaurateur Andy Nguyen. The restaurant was recently titled “The Best Burgers in America” by Good Morning America. Everything is plant based which I think is great in terms of contributing to the environment. It has a great vibe and even greater food. It’s best known for its saucy smashburgers and garlic fries. The prices range from $13.00- to a meal and $16.00 for their more gourmet burgers. However, it is totally worth it. Right now, the menu continues to stay small with only about 8 items, all burgers. My personal recommendation is the “OG Burger Combo”. The sweeter pickles, double patty, and caramelized onions, you really can’t go wrong! Next time you're in the area, stop by Bored and Hungry for a quick bite. Its management is amazing, and the vibes are incredible. It took me less than 10 minutes to get my full meal for amazing service. I definitely recommend it and I hope you enjoy it as much as I do.
By Diego Campbell If someone were to walk over to Atlantic Avenue, and take the 61 public bus going north, they might be lucky enough to stop in front of Ramen Hub. This four-year-old restaurant sits on a busy corner of the Bixby Knolls neighborhood and has built up an impressive customer base. This is a review that will look at what Ramen Hub has to offer, what I happen to love, and whether or not the price is right. Looking at the menu of Ramen Hub, customers won’t be surprised to find different types of ramen soups at the ready. However, Ramen Hub also serves poke and sushi. For those who don’t know, ramen is a Japanese noodle soup with a rich flavored broth, a variety of different noodles, and often filled with meats and vegetables, sometimes even with the optional egg. Their ramen is made in authentic Aburi style, meaning that they use thin noodles that boil quicker in order to get the food out to the customer as fast as possible. Their menu boasts Original Tonkotsu Ramen with pork broth, Spicy Tonkotsu, and Signature Poke Bowls. Ramen Hub has a great spread, but what does it cost? Prices range from $7.45 to $16.45, not counting appetizers. Prices depend on how much is put into the food and the size of the food. Sushi rolls are some of the cheaper meals, while ramen soup always reaches the double digits. Poke bowls are some of the most expensive items, but it should be noted that by themselves, nothing goes above $20. By all intents and purposes, this is a fair deal. Personally, I am partial to Tonkotsu Ramen. I’m a picky eater, but Ramen Hub introduced me to some great dishes that I am always eager to try again. I’ve seen how they prepare the pork: before they send the finished product off, they use a blowtorch to cook it. This is a method of preparing Ramen called “Aburi” style. They perform this method out in the open, for all to see, but there’s always an open space so no one gets burned.
If someone is lucky enough to be on Atlantic Avenue, and wants to give Japanese food a try, then they should come to Ramen Hub in Long Beach, CA By Manny Villa Dinah’s Family Restaurant has locations in Glendale and Los Angeles with the Glendale location serving only fried chicken. The Los Ángeles location includes a retro style diner with the other half of the building being fully dedicated to fried chicken and biscuits. The diner has a variety of foods such as ribs, pasta, soups, seafood, and also breakfast foods like pancakes and waffles. The diner also serves a specialty German apple pancake. The fried chicken part of the restaurant sells solely their original recipe fried chicken and biscuits. The pricing of the diner is pretty average to what your usual diner would charge, while the fried chicken part charges a little more than your neighborhood KFC. Dinah’s fried chicken costs more because of the quality of the ingredients and the quality of the finished product. From experience I have never had a bad piece of chicken from there and it’s always crispy and never too salty or not salty enough. My favorite menu item is from the diner is the German apple pancake. The pancake takes about 45 minutes to bake, so it’s necessary to order it as soon as you sit down, but it is worth the wait. When the pancake is ready the waiter or waitress walks down to your table with a large metal pan that’s about 12 inches by 12 inches, and the pan has steam slowly coming off of it as the pancake has just come out of the oven. When it is served you almost have to cut it like a pizza because of the size of it. The pancake is topped with caramelized cuts of apple with cinnamon sprinkled on top with cinnamon in the dough of the pancake as well. The sweetness of the pancake is so perfect that you almost don’t need to put syrup on it. The apple pancake is better enjoyed with a couple family members because of the size it’s almost impossible to finish all by yourself.
I highly recommend trying the fried chicken or the German apple pancake. I also recommend trying other menu items because all their food is really good quality. Although it’s a little far I think it is worth the drive. By Gabrielle Born My favorite restaurant is Olive Garden. It is an Italian restaurant, and the address of my favorite location is 6874 Katella Ave, Cypress, CA, 90630. Although it is a family-oriented restaurant, Olive Garden is known to be quite expensive. For example, the Create-Your-Own-Pasta, which is my favorite dish, costs $13.99, not including if I ordered a $3.49 Dr. Pepper and $4.79 Breadsticks alongside it. Some of the specials at Olive Garden include Chicken Ravioli, Chicken and Shrimp Carbonara, and Gnocchi Soup. I would recommend Olive Garden as a restaurant that should be visited from time to time.
