By Manny Villa Dinah’s Family Restaurant has locations in Glendale and Los Angeles with the Glendale location serving only fried chicken. The Los Ángeles location includes a retro style diner with the other half of the building being fully dedicated to fried chicken and biscuits. The diner has a variety of foods such as ribs, pasta, soups, seafood, and also breakfast foods like pancakes and waffles. The diner also serves a specialty German apple pancake. The fried chicken part of the restaurant sells solely their original recipe fried chicken and biscuits. The pricing of the diner is pretty average to what your usual diner would charge, while the fried chicken part charges a little more than your neighborhood KFC. Dinah’s fried chicken costs more because of the quality of the ingredients and the quality of the finished product. From experience I have never had a bad piece of chicken from there and it’s always crispy and never too salty or not salty enough. My favorite menu item is from the diner is the German apple pancake. The pancake takes about 45 minutes to bake, so it’s necessary to order it as soon as you sit down, but it is worth the wait. When the pancake is ready the waiter or waitress walks down to your table with a large metal pan that’s about 12 inches by 12 inches, and the pan has steam slowly coming off of it as the pancake has just come out of the oven. When it is served you almost have to cut it like a pizza because of the size of it. The pancake is topped with caramelized cuts of apple with cinnamon sprinkled on top with cinnamon in the dough of the pancake as well. The sweetness of the pancake is so perfect that you almost don’t need to put syrup on it. The apple pancake is better enjoyed with a couple family members because of the size it’s almost impossible to finish all by yourself.
I highly recommend trying the fried chicken or the German apple pancake. I also recommend trying other menu items because all their food is really good quality. Although it’s a little far I think it is worth the drive.
