By Diego Campbell If someone were to walk over to Atlantic Avenue, and take the 61 public bus going north, they might be lucky enough to stop in front of Ramen Hub. This four-year-old restaurant sits on a busy corner of the Bixby Knolls neighborhood and has built up an impressive customer base. This is a review that will look at what Ramen Hub has to offer, what I happen to love, and whether or not the price is right. Looking at the menu of Ramen Hub, customers won’t be surprised to find different types of ramen soups at the ready. However, Ramen Hub also serves poke and sushi. For those who don’t know, ramen is a Japanese noodle soup with a rich flavored broth, a variety of different noodles, and often filled with meats and vegetables, sometimes even with the optional egg. Their ramen is made in authentic Aburi style, meaning that they use thin noodles that boil quicker in order to get the food out to the customer as fast as possible. Their menu boasts Original Tonkotsu Ramen with pork broth, Spicy Tonkotsu, and Signature Poke Bowls. Ramen Hub has a great spread, but what does it cost? Prices range from $7.45 to $16.45, not counting appetizers. Prices depend on how much is put into the food and the size of the food. Sushi rolls are some of the cheaper meals, while ramen soup always reaches the double digits. Poke bowls are some of the most expensive items, but it should be noted that by themselves, nothing goes above $20. By all intents and purposes, this is a fair deal. Personally, I am partial to Tonkotsu Ramen. I’m a picky eater, but Ramen Hub introduced me to some great dishes that I am always eager to try again. I’ve seen how they prepare the pork: before they send the finished product off, they use a blowtorch to cook it. This is a method of preparing Ramen called “Aburi” style. They perform this method out in the open, for all to see, but there’s always an open space so no one gets burned.
If someone is lucky enough to be on Atlantic Avenue, and wants to give Japanese food a try, then they should come to Ramen Hub in Long Beach, CA
