Photo: ABC Action News By: Kate Kennelly It is no surprise that Apple has been dominating the world of phone technology, but could they have more control than we thought? For several years now, there have been allegations that Apple has been slowing down our Apple products to encourage us to replace them with the newer versions. Within the first month of a new phone or iPad, some of the top search results around the world have to do with why iPhones and iPads are slowing down. This is definitely no coincidence. This is one of Apple’s many ways to keep themselves in the news and to keep you buying more products. While any allegations of Apple slowing down products around new release dates were always denied in the past, in 2017 they came clean. Apple audited to slowing down products around release dates. They said this was to encourage people to buy the newer and better items they offer. They want you to think that the newer better version will be faster and surely wouldn’t slow down. Little did its customers know, this was all a lie. They were going to have the same Robles in a year or so. Once the newer phones or iPad came out, the “newer and better” phone would slow down, just as the previous one had. When Apple came clean and admitted that these allegations were true, they were sued. They were fined 5 million euros, or about $5.5 million. They accepted this deal and paid the fine. However, this did not stop them. After they paid the fine, it seemed as if all of the bad press about Apple was out of the news. While it may have seemed as if the problem would be fixed, they continued to do this. The lawsuit has not stopped Apple from slowing your electronic devices at all. As a matter of fact, the same popular search results still come up when new apple devices are released: “Why is my iPhone slowing down?” So next time your iPhone starts to slow down, it might not be your fault. Before you think about replacing the battery or that you did something wrong, look to see if a new Apple phone or iPad has come out in the last few weeks, because that might be the reason for your electronic issues.
