By: Diego Campbell Welcome to the finish line! AP tests are over, finals are just around the calendar, and we can start counting the days we have left in school on our hands. It's going to take a lot of studying to finish the school year, but it might help to start mapping out the road ahead. Summer is two and a half months of pure possibility, and it’s time to start thinking about what to do. I decided to put in my two cents and create a journalist-approved list of five things to do over the summer break. Here is The Halo's Official Top Five Best Ways to Spend Your Summer: 5. Volunteer School may be over, but there is still work to be done. Just because you're on vacation, doesn’t mean you can’t help out. Look around your neighborhood and see if there’s something you can do. It could be as simple as picking up trash (on sidewalks) to picking up trash (on beaches). It’s generally a good thing to do, and you’ll be making the world a better place in the process. Picture via 6sqft.com 4. Go to the beach California has all the conditions for a perfect beach day. It’s hot. It’s a coastal state. It’s got the Aquarium of the Pacific. Heck, the city is called Long Beach. So why not enjoy the surf, sand, and sun. Some really great beach options nearby include Long Beach City Beach and Alamitos Beach. Take a towel, a swimsuit, some sunscreen, and a cooler full of food and drinks, and go relax on the sands. Get tossed around on the waves. Play some high-stakes volleyball games in the sand. COVID-19 cost us two-years worth of beach days, so let’s set the record straight this year. 3. Binge watch hard In the coming summer months, streaming services and movie studios are pumping out all sorts of shows and blockbusters to enjoy. These companies know that their target demographics have lots of time on their hands, so why not give them something to watch while they wait. Theaters are starting their summer premieres with the long-awaited conclusion to the hit trilogy "Jurassic World: Dominion" (June 10th), and Pixar’s newest ambitious project, "Lightyear" (June 17th). Disney+ will also be releasing episodes of the limited series "Obi-wan Kenobi" weekly, starting May 27th. The series will feature the long-awaited return of Ewan McGregor as Obi-wan Kenobi, and Hayden Christensen as Darth Vader. On Netflix, "Stranger Things" returns with two release dates, May 27th and July 1st, in order to split the season and build tension. "The Cuphead Show," another fan favorite series streaming on Netflix, is also returning summer 2022. Although there is no official release date, it‘s possible that it will be released sometime around the same time as the Cuphead video game’s DLC, "The Delicious Last Course," which comes out on June 30th. And this is just to name a few, with plenty more on the horizon for all types of audiences to enjoy. So sit back, relax, and enjoy the show. Picture via Wallpaperacces.com
2. Go on a road trip Summer is just an open road, so why not take that road and turn it into a road trip. You’ve been going through a cycle of school-life and home-life, so why not see a little more of the world while you're living that summer-life. Travel to another state, visit a national park, watch a concert, have an adventure. With a whole summer ahead of you, go out and have some fun. Do what you want to do, and go where you want to go. 1. Spend the summer with friends and family By default, this had to be number one. Summer is worth nothing if you don't have fun during it. And what better way to have fun than by spending time with friends and family, people you care about who care right back at you. Everything on this list can be done with friends and/or family. Having a good summer means being happy and enjoying the time you have with people you enjoy being around. I won't tell you how to spend your summer with friends and family, mostly because every friendship is different and I can't guarantee the same advice for all of them, but mainly because they probably already have a few ideas themselves. So I’ll just end my last article with this: As a wise man once said, “Summer belongs to you.” So make the most of it, at least.
