According to Fox News, on Wednesday, damaging winds shook up the Pacific Northwest and the Rocky Mountain resulting in trees falling, power lines going down, and even killing a person. According to the associated press in the Pacific Northwest at least more than 500,000 people have been experiencing power outages and loss of power. In Washington the winds were strong enough to blow over a tractor trailer apparently reaching speeds of up to 70 mph and according to Spokane Fire Chief Brian Schaeffer a 40 year old woman died when she got trapped in her car from a tree falling onto it. The winds are just as strong in Oregon where it caused a landslide on interstate 84 which caused 50 year old nurse Jennifer Camus Moore to be swept away and who still remains missing. In Wyoming the winds have gotten to a speed of up to 105 mph which made the Union Pacific stop train travel for the time being from Nebraska to Wyoming. Also Iowa, Minnesota and Wisconsin are expected to have about 8 inches of snow through this upcoming weekend. According to the national weather service the warm air from the southwest will move into the northeast over the course of the next couple of days which will cause the temperatures to spike and rise up to 15 - 20 degrees above average in California, Nevada and Arizona. The high temperatures and windier conditions have made the combination needed to have an elevated risk of fire or blaze on Thursday in Colorado, Kansas, and Oklahoma.

By: Leslie Lopez According to CNN, authorities are holding Michigan officials accountable for the death of twelve people due to the flint water crisis. Former Governor Rick Sydner faces two counts for willful neglect of duty. The eight others are facing a number of charges from willful neglect of duty to involuntary manslaughter. Since 2014 Flint has been exposed to levels of lead due to the city and state officials switching the water supply to the contaminated Flint River in an attempt to reduce costs. The Michigan Department of Environmental Quality was unsuccessful to treat water and it ate into the city’s lead water pipes. In the action it caused it to enter the drinking water. The water caused two outbreaks of Legionnaires’ disease which is a serious type of pneumonia. Nicholas Lyon, former director of the Michigan department of health and human services, lawyer says that he is innocent and that what he did was based on “advice.” Mr.Snyder’s charges are misdemeanors and are punishable by one year in jail or a fine of $1,000. Due to the Michigan officials changing the water supply 12 died and 80 people got sick for the poor decision. Biran Lennon, Snyder’s attorney, claims that Snyder was being used as a scapegoat. Lennon pronounced that Snyder would be charged with a “political escape.” Last year the state had made an arrangement with victims for a $6 million settlement for what happened. Multiple lawsuits were made against the state and all that participated in changing the water source. Snyder was elected in 2010 and served until 2018. A study showed that children that possessed elevated levels of lead in their blood doubled after the water resource switched. In late 2015 the state gave away free water filters. A judge ordered for the state to deliver bottled water to the homes that did not have filtered water. Residents are advised to use filtered water for cooking and drinking.

SPRINGVILLE - According to the police a man from Springville has been charged with killing his mother at the dinner table and then proceeding to dance with his sister next to their mother’s dead body. The man, Mike Lopez, who is 23 years old has been charged with first degree murder, as well as possession of a weapon on a restricted person and domestic violence in the presence of a child. His court date is scheduled for January 12 and the crime took place on December 23 where his two sisters, ages 14 and 17, were with their mother, Victoria Ramirez, age 43. Lopez walked into the dining room with a shotgun and pointed it directly at Ramirez, then he looked at his 14 year old sister who gave each other a head nod. The 14 year old locked herself in a bathroom and the 17 year old remained on the other side of the door. Ramirez was stated saying to her son, “I know you’re going to kill me, and I love you.” As she said this Lopez fired a single shot into Ramirez hitting her in the face and neck, killing her almost instantly. The 14 year old left the bathroom and started stroking her mother’s hair and then she and Lopez started dancing together next to their mother’s body. The 17 year old locked herself into the bathroom and escaped through the window where she ran away to call another relative as well as the police. When Lopez was arrested for the murder of his mother he nodded his head affirming that he did the crime and told the officers that “someone told me to do it”. At the time of the arrest Lopez had THC in his system and the 17 year old believed that he was providing marijuana to her 14 year old sister as well as that her sister knew beforehand what was going to happen. When the 14 year old girl was interviewed the officers noted that she was acting strange and when asked about dancing with her brother after their mother was killed all she did was smile and recite the lyrics to the song, showing no emotions during the interview. By: Leslie Lopez According to CNN, a homeless man risked his life to save an animal shelter after it caught on fire. Kieth Walker ran into the W-Underdogs shelter on December 18. The fire was located inside the building's kitchen. Kieth says that he was terrified to go into the building but then said that God put him there to save the animals. The picture above is Keith and his dog which is his best friend. Kieth claims “If you love a dog, you can love anyone in the world.” Hamlin, founder of W-Underdogs, says that Keith is his guardian angel because the firefighters did not want to deal with the dogs when Kieth was already inside saving them. That day Kieth saved six dogs and ten cats. Police officer Matt Lima was called to a grocery store after security said women didn't scan every item they put in their bag in the self-checkout. The women were stopped outside of the store with their two children. Officer Lima took one of the women aside so the children wouldn't hear and the employees helped by keeping the children occupied. The woman told the officer that they were having some family issues and what they took was going to be Christmas dinner for the children. Charges were not pressed and the women were very grateful. The officer gave them a gift card of $250 so they could buy groceries. Officer Lima says he was a bit struck from the situation because he has two daughters around the children's age.
