By Noah Buchanan A 25 year old suspect has been arrested for chewing off an elderly’s man ear and part of his face inside a Portland, Oregon, subway. What you hear next you may not believe. The 25 year old suspect has been identified as Koryn Kraemer. He stated to the cops that he believed the 78 year old victim was a killer “robot.” Kraemer was charged with a second-degree assault charge. The victim was standing on the platform at around 2 am Tuesday, January 3, 2023, when Kraemer, who was allegedly drunk and high on fentanyl and marijuana, approached the elderly man and proceeded to eat his face. When police arrived at the scene, they had to pull Kramer off the victim. By then, the 25 year old had chewed off the man’s ears and had bitten off his face to the point of exposing his skull. The victim was taken to a local hospital, where he was listed in stable condition.
“In a subsequent interview with law enforcement, Kraemer stated that he believed the victim was a killer ‘robot,’ and was trying to kill the man based on how the victim smelled,” District Attorney Schmidt said in a statement. Kraemer also said that he had spit out the victim's flesh that he had bitten off and claimed the police “had saved his life by separating him from ‘the robot’”. He later confessed to consuming alcohol, cannabis and fentanyl pills prior to the incident. Kraemer appeared in court Wednesday, January 4, 2023, where he pleaded not guilty to the assault charge. The prosecutors asked that the defendant be held without bail until trial. Kraemer will remain in bars pending a detention hearing that has not yet been scheduled. Kraemer grew up in Westfield, New Jersey, and previously attended Oberlin College in Ohio, where he was a goalie on the men’s soccer team in 2015 and 2016. With a promising career ahead of him, Kraemer’s behavior under the influence shows how deadly drugs truly are and especially one certain drug fentanyl and how it can ruin someone’s career like Koryn Kraemer’s.

By: Kyle Shisbey Martin Luther King Jr. Day, a national holiday which was passed in 1986, is a holiday which is celebrated as remembrance of how far America has come. MLK Jr. Day is a federal holiday in the United States marking the birthday of Martin Luther King Jr. It is traditionally marked as the third Monday of each January, but in fact, King’s Birthday is actually on January 15th. This holiday is usually associated with the remembrance of his achievements. Everyone knows Martin Luther King Jr. because he is the one who fought for the justice of the people. He was a black preacher who lived during the Civil Rights Movement and strongly disagreed with the way life was as he grew up. At that time, the United States was very different from today. Back then, we struggled greatly with something we struggle with even today, and this specific something is racism. Racism has always been a problem in the world, and, since times change, people have acknowledged it was about time people did, too. This is when people knew it was time to end inequality of man because of the color of their skin. Martin Luther King Jr. was the chief spokesperson for nonviolent activism in the Civil Rights Movement, which protested racial discrimination in federal and state law. While Dr. King believed the Beloved Community was possible, he acknowledged and fought for systemic change. His example is our call to action. MLK Jr. Day is the only federal holiday designated as a National Day of Service to encourage all Americans to volunteer to improve their communities. MLK Jr. Day is usually celebrated with marches and parades and with speeches by civil rights leaders and politicians. Individuals and organizations also undertake volunteer efforts in support of what is often called the MLK Day of Service. Together, we can strengthen ties to our communities and one another while we address critical issues that divide us.
By Manny Villa Later this month a bright green comet that has been unseen for thousands of years will be visible to us in the night sky. Jon Giorgini, a senior analyst at NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory says, "If C/2022 E3 has ever passed through the solar system before, it would have last been seen in the sky more than 10,000 years ago." C/2022 E3 was first spotted last year in March. At the time, the comet was inside the orbit of Jupiter according to the Zwicky Transient Facility in California. Comets are large frozen masses of rock, gas, and dust, and, when they are heated and exposed to radiation by the sun, they ignite causing gasses and dust to create an atmosphere around the comet and trail behind it in a tail-like shape. These frozen rocks and gasses are the remnants of planets and stars that formed billions of years ago. This comet in particular is a little different in the way that it is made up; diatomic carbon and cyanogen gives this comet its green color when exposed to heat and radiation. According to NASA the comet C/2022 E3 reached its closest proximity to the sun on January 12, and will be closest to earth by February 1. The brightness of comets tends to change as they travel, but according to Preston Dyches from NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory, this one should keep its bright color by the time it reaches earth. After it appears in earth's sky it’s future path of travel is unclear. If you are planning on looking at this comet it will be visible within the constellation Camelopardalis, which is located between latitudes +90 and -10. This is a newly discovered comet so there is still a lot to learn and understand about it.
By Gabrielle Born Natural gas prices are increasing worldwide, but especially in Europe, because of the Russia-Ukraine war. Russia is shutting off its natural gas trade with Europe. Russia is threatening Europe so that the continent will not help Ukraine in the war. Since European countries, especially Germany, import most of their natural gas from Russia, Europe will not have much natural gas to keep for themselves. However, the United States has stepped in and is giving a portion of its natural gas production to Europe, and this has left Americans with higher natural gas prices.
Reuters News Agency Company has reported that the amount of liquified natural gas that the United States exported to Europe has more than doubled from 4.6 million per month in 2021 to 10 million a month in 2022. With the United States giving more natural gas away to Europe, it means that less natural is provided for American citizens. That is why natural gas prices have been surging lately. |
