By Gabrielle Born Denim Day is an observation about assault. It is always celebrated on the last Wednesday of April.
History It started when a female Italian student was assaulted in 1992 by her driving instructor, who supposedly ripped off her pants. The girl sued him against assault to the Italian Supreme Court. The Italian Supreme Court overturned the case because one of the members claimed that since the student was wearing tight jeans, she would have had to help the attacker to get the jeans off. This was called the “jeans alibi.” Women in the Italian Parliament protested the Supreme Court’s decision by wearing denim/jeans on the steps of the parliament. This observation is celebrated to support people who are victims of assault. Best Denim to Wear for this observation?
